At Cabot High School, signs were posted, fears were faced, and help was needed. It was time for the blood drive. On November 2, students lined up and donated their blood to local clinics and hospitals to help people who needed it. “People don’t understand the need there is for blood,” Phlebotomist Latoya Uekman said. “There is no substitute for blood, so if we don’t come out here to get it, the hospitals won’t get any.”

“You have so many students willing to donate, it’s amazing,” Uekman said. Everyone who donated blood filled up units. Cabot donated over 60 units of blood and 93 donors from Cabot High School, many students were proud of what they did.

“Cabot is always so interesting,” Account Consultant Kacie Kindrex, organizer of the blood drive said. Each unit is one pint of blood, with each pint being able to save almost three lives according to the Brookhaven National Laboratory, meaning here at Cabot, we saved up to 180 people.

“I hope it will help someone,” sophomore Nathan Claunch said. “I didn’t do it for recognition, I did it to help.” The students here at Cabot donated there time and their blood so that many people could be helped by it, and many felt proud of what they did. There are more scheduled blood drives this school year on February 8, and one possibly May 3, so there are more opportunities to donate blood and save lives.
