Now that the new school year has arrived, there are many new opportunities the students at CHS have. One of those opportunities is the EMT program.
The EMT medical class is a new program that CHS has provided for students who want to pursue a career in the medical field.
With the new EMT class, there are a lot of different responsibilities and skills the students need to learn to be able to complete the program.
“There are a lot of skills,” teacher Ryan Collins said. “They will be required to know patient assessments, vital signs, and BLS.”
BLS stands for CPR First Aid.
Students will be working in different labs throughout the school year to learn different procedures to be able to achieve their goal by the end of the year and get their EMT license.
“We will be doing trauma simulations, medical emergency simulations, traction splitting, and spinal immobilization,” Collins said.
With that, students are looking forward to the opportunities this program can provide them and the way it can help with their future.
“I look forward to learning about the different emergency techniques and also experiencing new environments through this specific field,” senior Karah Charles said. “With the new techniques, I’ll be more aware and prepared in the future.”
