The Cabot Panthers had a tough battle on the home field against the Ruston Bearcats from Louisiana Friday night, losing 28-17.
Cabot kicked off to start the game, leading into an uneventful first quarter. Both Cabot and Ruston ran back and forth on the field in the pursuit to score a touchdown, both coming short of their endzones.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Bearcats ran into the end zone for the first score of the night. With a good point after, they led 7-0. With 4:15 left on the clock, the Bearcats hit a field goal. The Panthers remained scoreless and the Bearcats led 10-0.
The third quarter opened with a potential game changer. Within one minute into the 3rd quarter, Keegan Vest was on the receiving end of a pass and booked into the end zone, giving the Panthers their first touchdown of the game. Cabot’s extra point was good, closing the gap, 7-10
Midway through the third quarter, the Bearcats hit another field goal. On their next possession, the Bearcats took a punt halfway down the field and then sprinted in for a touchdown. In the final minute of the third quarter the Bearcats crossed the goal line again. Cabot fell, 7-28.
The fourth quarter was all Cabot, but it wasn’t enough.
Within the first minute of the fourth quarter, Cabot’s Samuel Dubwig hit a field goal, 10-28. As the clock dwindled down, Cabot’s Hayes Cox rushed for the final touchdown of the game. With the extra point it was Cabot 17, Ruston 28.
Cabot plays Jonesboro next week.
