The Cabot Panthers dominated the Fort Smith Northside Grizzlies Friday on Northside’s home turf, 31-7.
The first quarter was very slow until the last 13 seconds when the Panthers were able to strike and cross the goal line. Dean Heyer was able to kick the extra point putting Cabot in the lead, 7-0.
The second quarter was very slow as well. Cabot was able to score one touchdown and also kept the Northside Grizzlies away from the end zone.
The Panthers were on the three-yard line with 15 seconds left in the second quarter, when quarterback Keegan Vest barreled his way through Fort Smith’s defense into the end zone. Heyer kicked the extra point making the score for the first half, 14-0.
The third quarter was intense for the fans. Fort Smith was able to score their first touchdown at the beginning of the quarter. The extra point was good, and the Grizzlies cut Cabot’s lead in half.
With 3 minutes remaining in the third quarter, Vest managed to force his way through the Grizzlies defense yet again, giving the Panthers another touchdown. Heyer helped with an extra and the Panthers increased the score 21-7,
The fourth quarter was reassuring for Cabot. At the 11-minute mark, the Grizzlies had control of the ball when quarterback Damarcus Moody tried to throw the ball to a teammate, but Gunner Poe intercepted; took the ball down the field, out running the Grizzlies’ offense, into the end zone for a Cabot score. Heyer’s kick was good, locking in a 28-7 lead.
With 5 minutes left on the clock, Heyer kicked the last 3 points of the game as Cabot took home the victory against Fort Smith, 31-7.
The win gives Cabot a 5-4 overall record and the Panthers will take on the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats at home Friday.
