The Springdale Harber-Wildcats traveled three hours to take on the Cabot Panthers in round one of the 7A state tournament and got mauled, 42-6.
The Cabot Panthers played a rough match against the Har-Ber Wildcats. Cabot secured the lead early in the game, becoming a powerhouse and winning the game 42-6.
The win advances third-seed Cabot into the second round and they will play second-seed Bentonville in Bentonville.
The 7A State game hosted by the Cabot Panthers started off rough and tough and without a score in the first quarter.
The second quarter, however, belonged to Cabot. The Panthers hit just six seconds into the quarter. Maddox Mccroy handed the ball off to Keegan Vest who ran down the field and barreled into the end zone giving Cabot six points. The extra kick was good, putting Cabot in the lead 7-0.
Less than a minute later, Gunner Poe intercepted the ball that Har-Ber threw for what looked like a pick-six, but there was a flag thrown on the play and the touchdown was revoked. But Cabot continued to control the game and a minute later, Mccroy threw the ball to Hayes Cox who grabbed it and rolled backwards into the endzone. Mccroy kicked the extra point giving the Panthers a solid lead, 14-0.
With 4:36 left on the second quarter clock , Mccroy handed the ball to Vest who barreled his way into the endzone giving the Panthers their final touchdown of the first half. The extra point was good, securing the Panthers a lead of 21-0.
The final scoring play of the half was made by Har-Ber. With 1:48 left on the clock the Wildcats were able to score a touchdown. The extra point was blocked by the entire Panther defense. Cabot held a strong lead at the end of the first half 21-6.
The third quarter was also rough for Har-Ber. With 8:50 on the clock, Branden Sprauge threw the ball to a teammate, but was intercepted by Poe who took it to the house. Lucas Blalack kicked an extra point extending the Panthers lead, 28-6.
With 4:05 left in the third quarter, Powell busted the Wildcats defense and powered his way into the endzone. Blalack kicked the extra point making the score, 35-6.
The fourth quarter secured the win for Cabot. There was 11:53 left on the clock and Powell handed the ball off to Vest, who then ran his way into the endzone for his third touchdown of the night, giving Cabot an insurmountable lead. Blalack kicked an extra point making the final score 42-6.
