Big Plays. Big Scores. Big Night. The Cabot Panthers faced the Pulaski Academy Bruins on Friday for Homecoming, ending the night with a home loss, 56-47.
Within the first minute of the game, the Bruins scored a touchdown. The extra point was missed and the Bruins kicked off the night at 6-0.
The Panthers roared back as Dominic De La Torre scored a touchdown shortly after, and with the extra point being good, the Panthers took the lead, 7-6.
Within the next few minutes, the Bruins scored another touchdown from the 15-yard line. The Bruins went for two and scored, pulling ahead 14-7.
Panther Bret Jay intercepted the ball from the Bruins and took off for almost 30 yards, Just seconds after the interception Ayden Tatum scored the Panthers a touchdown, and with the extra point being good the score was tied 14-14.
The Bruins built on their momentum and were able to score another touchdown, but Panther David Liddell intercepted the ball before the Bruins could score their extra point. This updated the score to 20-14, the Bruins lead.
At the beginning of the second quarter, Tatum was able to deliver the ball into the end zone from 12 yards out, giving the Panthers 7 points with the extra point being good. However, the Bruins quickly responded, running the ball into the endzone from the 20-yard line. They ended up making the 2-point conversion, which updated the score to 28-21, the Bruins leading.
The Bruins continued their scoring streak by hitting another touchdown and extra point, moving their score up to 35 points.
But the Panthers weren’t done, scoring yet a touchdown of their own, The extra point failed bringing the score to 35-27 Bruins.
The Bruins followed up with another touchdown with the extra point being good, widening the score to 42-27
Seventy-six points in the first half, if that wasn’t a record it was close.
With just 3 minutes left in the second quarter, De La Torre delivered the ball into the end zone, with the extra point being good. This updated the score to 42-34.
Both teams kept each other at a stalemate throughout much of the third quarter until Panther Keagan Vest broke the pace and was able to score a touchdown from the one-yard line.
Moments later, the Bruins pushed through the Panther’s defenses and scored another touchdown, and with the extra point being good the score was 49-41, the Bruins leading at the end of three.
One minute into the fourth quarter, senior Aiden Tatum came in hot and delivered the Panthers to the Bruin’s 30-yard line.
The Panthers pulled to within two, scoring another touchdown, 49-47. The extra point was not good. The score was close.
With just 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Panthers went to the air to try and get ahead but the Bruin’s offense intercepted the Panther’s ball and they scored instead of the Panthers, making the final score 56-47.
Before the game, club ambassadors were announced to the crowd where the ambassadors sported their suits and dresses, and Homecoming court maids were next to be announced. Shortly thereafter, senior Karsyn Porter was crowned the Maid of Honor while Senior Mary Rose Youngblood was crowned Homecoming Queen.
Friday, Cabot will be traveling to Bryant to face the Hornets in a tough conference matchup.
