Halloween is a holiday beloved by many. Whether students are trick-or-treating or passing out candy, this holiday offers many different activities to partake in.
Even though students are not out for the holiday, many are excited for the afternoon after the school day is finished. Junior Allee Autry has been anticipating a Halloween party she was invited to for weeks now.
“I’ve been looking forward to this party for a long time,” Autry said. “I cannot wait to spend time with my friends there.”
It’s not just parties after school that are exciting students. Halloween parties are also held during the school day.
The annual Halloween Feastival party for the Newspaper class is also being talked about as well. Senior Xander McCormick, a co-editor for the newspaper this year, cannot wait for the food that is going to be shared.
“I’m actually very excited to taste Mrs. Hodge’s famous meatballs,” McCormick said.
Even though Halloween can be fun and memorable, other skills can be used to make the holiday more enjoyable.
Imagination and creativity is a huge part of celebrating Halloween. Many students are putting these skills to use by creating original, exemplary costumes to show off, with some of them even matching with friends and family. Sophomore Gracie Dillon decided to dress up with her friend, Sophomore Kelsea Webb for a Halloween softball game.
“We are going as cows with the signs ‘Eat Mor Chikin’,” Dillon said. “We wanted to be something funny but not over the top.”
Halloween wouldn’t be Halloween without candy. Many students will be out and about in the streets, but some students prefer to stay home and pass out candy to the many kids who come and knock on their door. Junior Mileena Poe likes to stay at home for all the right reasons.
“I love seeing all the creative costumes and the excitement on the kid’s faces,” Poe said. “Plus, it’s a great way to enjoy the Halloween spirit without going out.”
Poe isn’t just in love with the candy that the holiday has to offer. She also likes how the holiday can bring people closer together.
Poe said, “It’s a fun way to connect with the neighborhood and meet new people.”
Even though connecting with the people around Poe is very important to her, it’s not her favorite thing to do on Halloween night. Her house is a staple of her traditions as well.
“Halloween is a great opportunity to decorate my house and show off how much I love the holiday,” Poe said. “I hope I can inspire kids in my neighborhood to show off their creativity skills in their own ways, even after Halloween is over.”
