The Panthers were looking to secure a playoff spot by shredding the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats in the final season game Friday. The Panthers came out on top as the bigger cat, winning the game 44-3 and will be moving into the playoffs next week.
The night began with North Little Rock holding the Panthers to scoring a field goal made by Dean Heyer.
With 4 minutes left in the first quarter, the Charging Wildcats managed to go over the Panther heads and score a field goal, evening the score. Both teams held each other off from scoring the rest of the quarter.
The stalemate was in place for most of the second quarter, until Panther Aeneas Arnold caught a 30-yard scoring pass thrown by his teammate Maddox McCrory. The extra point was good and the Panther’s score was updated to 10-7.
The Panthers were able to build off their momentum, with Panther Keegan Vest running into the endzone for another touchdown. The Panther’s score was updated to 17-3, with the extra point being good.
With 2 and a half minutes left on the timer, Panther Braylon Owen intercepted the ball from the Wildcats and delivered it to the 1-yard line. Shortly after Vest walked it into the endzone, giving the Panthers another touchdown. Their extra point was good and it increased the score to 24 over the Wild Cats at 3.
Just as the Panthers were about to score another touchdown, the Wild Cats picked the ball off before the second quarter ended. The Wild Cats weren’t able to score, ending the second quarter score at 24-3 with the Panthers in the lead.
The third quarter started off scoreless until 5 minutes were left on the clock. The Panther’s wide receiver Aeneas Arnold stepped up and scored a touchdown and with the Panther’s extra point being good the score came out to be 31-3, Cabot leading.
The Panthers kept the pressure on the Wild Cats with an interception and touchdown by Owen. The Panther score was updated to 37 as the extra point was not good.
The fourth started off hot for the Panthers by scoring another touchdown 3 minutes in. Isaiah Beatty burst through the Wild Cats defenses and walked into the endzone with the ball in his possession. Cabot continued to lead with a 44-3, putting the mercy rule into effect.
As the clock ticked down, the Cabot Panthers took home their last conference win with the end of the night score being 44-3. Next week, the Panthers will travel to Little Rock Southwest to compete in their first playoff game of the season.
