As the official countdown for Cabot Softball’s 2025 season begins, coaches and players have eagerly started hunkering down on and off the field. While the snow hasn’t fully melted, the team starts their days early and ends them late.
After Christmas break, the team started early morning practices, where they come in every day of the school week to either weight lift or hit. Junior Mileena Poe was very enthusiastic about this beneficial change to her schedule during the off-season.
“It helps us build discipline and a strong work ethic, which are super important traits for any successful team,” Poe said. “Plus, practicing regularly helps us get stronger, more coordinated, and work better together, which is so important if we want to perform our best during the season.”
It’s not just early mornings and late afternoons that would contribute to the team’s success this season. Assistant Coach Tori Willborg believed that what’s on the inside will carry the team far in the regular season games and the state tournament.
“This is a great group of athletes with heart and grit and I think that along with their hard work that they put in day in and day out will carry them far into state,” Willborg said. “If they continue to buy in, commit, and work together as a team, they will be hard to beat.”
However, Head Coach Christopher Cope believed that with a little more time, the team will be able to fight off other schools using the skills they’ve learned this off-season.
“We aren’t ready at this time,” Cope said. “But, we have 47 days and we will be ready by March 3rd.”
