CHS student Sophomore Maddox Lane excels academically while managing to study rigorously for extracurriculars and electives. Lane works daily to improve the chances of getting a good job.
Lane worked tirelessly in his CTE classes to better himself to accomplish his dream of becoming an Electrical Engineer. Lane wished to accomplish this dream by attending Arkansas Tech University.
“I’ve been working really hard to make my college application look good,” Lane said. “I’m hoping to make it into ATU, so fingers crossed.”
Lane tried so hard so that one day he could be like his grandfather, who was an Electrical Engineer. Lane’s grandfather inspired him to achieve great grades and be an active participant in class.
“I love my classes,” Lane said. “It’s mostly discussion and group projects and stuff, but after that, you go into different classes that are for a specific thing.”
Lane was one of the star members of the CHS Quiz Bowl team, due to his having played for 7 years now. He started playing in elementary school around the 3rd grade and, as the questions got tougher with age, so did Lane. Quizbowl sponsor Sarah Lee was glad to see Lane still participating in Quiz Bowl and was impressed with his ability.
“I’m really happy to have Maddox on the team,” Lee said. “He’s probably one of the strongest players, I’m really happy to be working with him.”
This year, he has earned the title ‘tournament all-star’ not only at his Quiz Bowl team’s Regionals on March 15 but also at State on April 12. To obtain these awards, one must score over six points per game. He was very proud of earning these awards and felt like he’ll only get better in the future.
“I’m pretty happy with how I did,” Lane said. “We didn’t do amazing overall, but I’m sure we’ll get better.”
Since joining the Quiz Bowl team, they’re doing better than ever. However, current team captain, senior Andrew Kinnison, was unsure about the tumultuous future of the team after he graduates, but was happy to have Lane in it.
“There are definitely problems within the team, like areas we need to cover more thoroughly,” Kinnison said. “But, Maddox is good at answering questions.”
