Spirit Week

Spirit Week began on October 8, celebrating the week of Homecoming and showing school spirit before the football game on Friday and ceremony. To celebrate, participating students dressed according to the different themes of each day of the week. The themes in order from Monday to Friday were ‘Class Color Day,’ ‘Character Day,’ ‘Decade Day,’ ‘Tacky Tourist Day,’ and ‘Panther Pride Day.’

“Spirit Week is fun if you dress up,” senior Soterry Mao exclaimed. On Monday, groups of students walked the halls in matching colors. Seniors wore purple, juniors in blue, and sophomore shirts wore green. On Tuesday, students wore many unique outfits and costumes to look like a certain person or character from a movie, show, cartoon, or story. Costumes ranged from Scooby Doo characters to the Three Blind Mice to Timmy Turner and his fairies. The next day, students arrived to school representing styles from countless different time periods in history. Some dressed as classic hippies, others as 70s and 80s party girls and rock stars, 90s grunge kids, and even people from biblical times. Thursday consisted of many hats, Hawaiian shirts, khakis, sandals, and fanny packs as students had fun dressing up as ‘Tacky Tourists.’ Friday, ‘Panther Pride Day,’ gave students a chance to bring out their red and black clothing and face paint to celebrate the last day of Spirit Week.

Spirit Week was a positive way to end the first quarter of the school year. “Spirit Week is the only thing that gets me through the school year,” junior Zoe Moll said. The themed days of the week allowed students to have fun and express their creativity as the excitement for the Homecoming Pep Rally and football game grew.
