For the past few weekends and the weekends to come, students in Child Growth and Development class have been taking home the baby simulator.
The baby simulator is a robotic baby that acts as a newborn infant and students have to complete the tasks the baby gives you. The assignment required students to take home the baby simulator for a weekend.
The students had to feed, change, rock, and burp the baby simulator and make sure they were providing head support, and keeping it in the right positions. Students had two minutes to meet the task the baby needed to get credit for the task.
Having to take home a baby was challenging and stressful for students, especially when they haven’t taken care of an infant.
“I tried to stay patient when things got too chaotic and figure out her task the best I could,” sophomore Gracelynn Sallinger said.
Although the baby simulator had some stressful challenges, senior Aryonna Young found it fun getting to take home the baby.
“Getting to take her places and feed her was my favorite part of the experience,” Young said.
Students also had some tough situations they had to face while taking care of their baby simulator.
Senior Maddie Henderson said, “Staying up in the middle of the night and waking up to help her was the most difficult thing for me. especially when she needed to be burped at night”.
The main goal for the baby simulator project would be to show the difficulties of being a parent and the responsibilities you take on while being a student in high school.
