Cabot Archery qualified to go to Louisville, Kentucky to compete in the national competition.
Kelly Monroe, the Archery Club sponsor at the Junior High North explained that to go, archers had to meet certain requirements.
“Students are required to attend a minimum of one practice each week,” Monroe said. “Students must shoot at a State Qualifier Tournament and earn a rank among other high school teams in the state.”
The national competition was held in the Louisville Convention Center. Over two hundred schools attended the national competition, and Cabot ranked 144 out of 252 with an overall score of 3232. Cabot not only shot in the bullseye competition, but they also attended the 3D rounds. Cabot ranked 115 out of 157 schools that shot in the 3D competition.
“I am very proud of our archers because I know they are committing time and energy to the program,” Monroe said.
Before the team shot on Thursday, the team visited the indoor theme park, Malibu Jack’s to celebrate the seniors last year. Monroe let seniors choose the destination in honor of their upcoming graduation.
“We’ve done other events, but those weren’t chosen by the archers,” Monroe said. “Coach Duncan and I both believe the archers should have a say in the event we participate in after working so hard.”
