Before the school year started on August 20, the Cabot School District made the decision to restrict the use of DoorDash for students.
DoorDash and UberEats have been completely removed as an option for delivered food. Principal Mike Falcinelli and other teachers claim to feel unsafe as strangers come in contact with the students while delivering food.
“In between lunches is when it got questionable because these people were bringing in stuff for second lunch and students were going in around them and they were coming in contact with our students,” Falcinelli said. “So we felt like we weren’t as safe as we should’ve been.”
Now that all the food deliveries are banned, there is only one way for students to get outside food.
“The only deliveries that can be made by ones that are listed as a parent or guardian in your emergency contact,” Falcinelli said. “The only people who can bring deliveries are the ones that you are currently living with.”
These new policies on food deliveries enraged some students.
“As a student body, we don’t get any outside food so we’re stuck eating chicken tenders on Thursday,” Amdahl said. “It made my hunger rise not being able to order until the end of school.”
These new policies have some upsides to them, as they come with a safe way to protect the students in more than one way.
Senior Logan Neal-Walker said, “I think that the new policy on DoorDash is a good idea, because if you’re getting food from someone you know and care about, it will make it harder for other people to steal that, and I know that was a big problem last year, and what I do like about it is that you don’t have to pay as much for it.”
