Around the end of the first semester, juniors and seniors at Cabot High are scrambling to apply for college and scholarships.
Counselor Christy Melder shared some insightful tips on what’s best to do when preparing for scholarships.
“One of the best ways to get a scholarship is to work hard and make the best grades possible to apply for scholarships with the minimum GPA percentage being 3.0,” Melder said. “Mostly your test scores are what matter, on the ACT your goal should be a 19. This will help you apply for scholarships. Your test grades matter just as much as your academic grades.”
Applying for scholarships can be difficult; however, Senior Jacob Turner offered some advice for people thinking about applying for scholarships.
Turner said, “I didn’t know much about scholarships until my junior year but I think it’s good to research them even if you don’t plan on going to college.”
Though it took him a while to get the hang of the application process, Turner shared advice on how grades contribute to scholarships.
“The main part of it is to get good grades and stay on top of work,” Turner said. “Don’t start when it’s too late and don’t take the time you have granted.”
