The Cabot Panthers clipped the wings of the Little Rock Southwest Gryphons at Panther Stadium for their Homecoming game on Friday. Dominating the field, the Panthers earned their first victory of the season, 38-0.
The game’s theme was disco, and students and fans wore their best neon attire in support of their team, and the Panthers should know what it meant by “Staying Alive.”
Southwest won the coin toss, choosing to receive first, but went nowhere on their drive.
On Cabot’s first possession, running back Cooper Powell powered through the Gryphon players, virtually untouched, into the endzone. With a good extra point, Cabot led 7-0.
The Gryphons attempted to earn themselves a touchdown against the Panthers and get on the scoreboard, but they were unsuccessful, giving the ball back to Cabot.
Csbot scored again as Panther Ayden Tatum caught a pass, sprinted 40 yards, breaking the goalline plane. The extra point was good, increasing the score to 14-0.
After several exchanges between both teams, the Panthers took control of the ball again.
The Panthers drove the ball down to the 5-yard line, then crossed into the endzone successfully. The extra point was good, and Cabot was up 21-0.
The Gryphons began the last minute of the quarter at the 20-yard line, but were not able to push through for a touchdown, ending the first quarter with the Panthers leading 21-0.
The Gryphons commenced the second quarter by struggling to give themselves a number on the board. But the effort ended when Cabot intercepted an errant pass.
Panther Brayden Davenport pushed against multiple Gryphon defensive players to the endzone, handing Cabot another touchdown. After a perfect extra point, Cabot was up 28-0.
After an incomplete pass by the Gryphons, the Panthers got the ball back on downs, setting up the opportunity to score the leading team more points.
Panther Cooper Powell received the handoff, running straight into the endzone with no resistance. The extra point was good once again, keeping Cabot’s streak of the night and making the score 35-0.
With forty-five seconds left in the second quarter, the Gryphons attempted to keep possession, but were not able to fight back against the Panthers.
After failing to achieve a touchdown score, the Panthers hit a three-point field goal, closing up the first half with a score of 38-0.
After halftime ended, both the Gryphons and the Panthers fought hard for the ball throughout the third quarter. However, neither of the teams was able to score any points towards their team, maintaining the Panthers’ lead at 38-0.
The fourth quarter began with a running clock, but both teams continued the stalemate for the remainder of the quarter, bringing the game to a close, 38-0.
Cabot Panthers are now 1-4; their next game will be Friday against the Conway Wampus Cats in Conway.
