As the crisp fall weather settles in and the end of October draws near, students at Cabot High School are gearing up for Halloween with some amazingly unique costumes. This year, the trends range from the classic scary to pop culture costumes, reflecting a mix of creepy and funny, fresh ideas.
Despite the constantly changing trends, classic horror characters will always remain a popular choice. Witches, vampires, and clowns are making strong appearances this Halloween, with students putting their own unique twists on these timeless looks.
This year, many students are inspired by their favorite movies, TV shows, and video games. The recent popular superhero movies have sparked a wave of costumes featuring characters like Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, and Black Panther. Many students are also going as their favorite 2000s shows and movies like junior Layne Stewart.
“I’m going as my favorite character, Dr. House, from the 2004 TV show House,” Stewart said.
The rise of streaming platforms has also influenced many students’ costume choices. Characters from popular series like Stranger Things, The Mandalorian, and Wednesday are popping up everywhere. Junior Keegan Cardona chose to dress as Anakin Skywalker because of the character’s iconic role in Star Wars.
“I’ve recently binged all the movies on Disney Plus, and I think Anakin is perfect for my Halloween costume,” Cardona said.
Group costumes have become increasingly popular, with friend circles coordinating their outfits around a shared theme. This year, groups are dressing as everything from the cast of a TV show to a group of classic video game characters.
Another exciting trend this year is the focus on DIY and affordable costumes. Many students are upcycling clothes or creating outfits from scratch instead of buying mass-produced costumes from stores like Spirit Halloween.
“I’m saving money while also dressing up as my favorite character,” Stewart said.
Whether it’s scary, funny, or glamorous, Halloween costumes at Cabot High School are set to impress. With such a diverse mix of ideas, it’s clear that students are ready to celebrate in style, bringing creativity, fun, and a little bit of fright to this year’s Halloween.
