On April 25, students set aside their jeans, quarter zipped hoodies and t-shirts for glam, glitter, and tuxedos.
A Victorian themed Prom was open to juniors or seniors; sophomores were allowed to attend if invited. Following the formal affair, an after-party was held in the arena. Students ‘Cruised’ until the wee hours of the morning with some walking away with coveted prizes.
In order for there to have been a Prom, there would have to have sponsors. Biology teacher Lean McDonnough and her assistant, Shasta Jarmin, planned and organized the event for CHS.
“My main goal this year was to improve organization through the planning process of this year’s Prom,” McDonnough said. “Mrs. Jarmon has been a huge help in getting everything on track, and her attention to detail has helped ensure everything stays organized and aligned with the prom committee’s vision.”
Going out and experiencing new things was an enjoyable opportunity for junior Addison Lane, attending the formal affair with a significant other.
“This is my first experience going to Prom, so I am very excited,” Lane said. “My boyfriend made me a poster to ask me to Prom, so we are attending together.”
Creativity was important to junior Kira Whittingham, who wanted to show expressiveness through her choice of evening wear.
“When I went to Windsor to get my dress, my main goal was making a creative impression at Prom,” Whittingham said. “The first dress that caught my eye was a black, sparkly ball gown, and I knew it was the one.“
After Prom, students had a choice to attend the after party, Cruise, held safely in the arena for student’s entertainment. Senior Mileena Poe was most excited about what the after-party had to bring to the table.
“I’m going to Prom as tradition, but I am really thrilled about the after-party happening after Prom,” Poe said. “I am also very thankful to go with my Prom date, as he made me such a cute poster.”
Not only were memories gained on and off the dance floor, some students walked away with items that would help them be better equipped as they began the journey beyond high school. After Prom door prizes included microwaves, Meta Quest, mini fridges and flat screen televisions.
