The Cabot Panthers were amped to face off against the Little Rock Central Tigers on Halloween night. Although students were not allowed to wear costumes to the game, they still showed their support by cheering on their Panthers.
The Panthers were able to hold the Tigers throughout the spookiest night of the year, winning the game with a score of 42-28.
To start the first quarter, Panther Bentlee Harold was able to make a jumping catch in the endzone. With a good kick, the score was updated to 7-0 with the Panthers making an early lead.
The Panthers decided to follow this newfound momentum by running the ball into the end zone to score a touchdown. The extra point was good, and the score changed to 16-0.
The Tigers were trying to come back with a punt with only 3 minutes left in the quarter. However, the Panthers were able to block it, causing the Tigers to lose critical yards. The Panthers were also able to kick a field goal, increasing the score to 18-0.
Staying up with the scoreboard, Panther Jalyn Hart caught the Tiger’s kickoff and gave them a run for their money, running the ball all the way into the endzone for a touchdown. The Panthers kicked a good extra point, and the score was changed to 25-0.
To start the second quarter, the Panthers tried to hand off the ball in a trick play. However, the ball was fumbled, and the Tigers were able to pick up the ball. The Tigers were able to run the ball into the endzone, scoring their first touchdown of the night. The kick was good, and the scoreboard updated to 25-7 with the Panthers still in the lead.
The Panthers were quick to come back, with Panther Cooper Powell running the ball into the endzone to score another touchdown. With the extra point being good, the score changed to 32-7.
The Tigers clapped back, intercepting the ball at the 1-yard line. The Tigers now had the ball in their possession.
The Tigers were not able to score, however, and Panther Dean Heyer was able to kick a field goal to give the Panthers another 3 points to their score.
Powell started the third quarter by running the ball into the endzone, scoring the first touchdown of the quarter. After a good kick, the Panthers’ score turned to 42. Now, a running clock was in play.
At the very end of the third quarter, Tiger CJ White ran the ball into the endzone to score the Tigers’ second touchdown of the game. With the extra point being good, the score was updated to 42-14.
With just a minute left in the fourth quarter, White was able to make an amazing catch in the end zone, scoring yet another touchdown for the Tigers. Their extra point was made, and the score changed to 42-21.
The Tigers were able to recover their onside kick, so the ball was back in their
possession. The Tigers, with the clock running out, had one more chance to score because of a defensive penalty. The Tigers came together to score one more touchdown and an extra point, moving the score up to 42-28.
The Panthers ended up winning the game, with a score of 42-21. The Panthers are now 3-3 in conference. Next week, the Panthers will face off against the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats at home to end the year with senior night.
